English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a committee comprised of parents, staff, and community members specifically designated to advise school officials on English Learner program services.
We want to hear from you about how we can best support your students in learning English. All parents and community members are welcome!
CAASPP Assessment
Students take an end-of-year state CAASPP assessment. Statewide, students in grades 3-8 and 11 take the ELA and Math assessments. In addition, 5th, 8th, and high school students take the Science test. These assessments are an important part of California’s plan for high-quality teaching and learning. These tests are one measurement to assess your student’s progress. They provide important information to schools, teachers, and parents about how students are doing academically against California’s challenging learning goals.
As a parent, there are a number of ways you can support your child before taking an end-of-year test.
- Remind your child the test is important and encourage him/her to do their best. Your support is very important to your child!
- Help your child gain a high level of comfort by taking a practice test prior to the day of testing. These practice tests are an opportunity for student(s) to experience items similar to what they will see on the actual test. When practicing, remind your child to listen to instructions and read directions for each question carefully. Try out the test by going to www.sanjuan.edu/testing.
- The night before testing, make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
Pasadena will be administering the test on (TBD). Plan to have your child present on these days!
Attendance
Good attendance is the foundation of being successful in school. It's important that your student is in class on-time every day unless they're ill. Please try to avoid scheduling vacations or other activities that can be arranged during non-school times. If your child is absent or late, you must call the absence line at (916) 979-8560 or email: Pasadenaasbsence@sanjuan.edu. Please state the student's name Your name and relationship with the student Date or dates of absence Reason for the absence If your child attends a medical appointment, please bring a note from the provider to the school office. **Absences not cleared within 5 school days will become truancies.**
